ORL 5253 Organizational Communication (3 Credit Hours)
In this course a focus on theory, research, problems, and opportunities related to communication within modern organizations is presented from both an academic and applied perspective. Historical views of organizational communication, including various theories and approaches, are reviewed. Definitions and models of communication, as well as barriers to effective communication, are examined. Specific communication settings are also explored, such as one-on-one, small group, and large group presentations. The course provides a consideration of group dynamics and group decision making, the management of conflict, negotiating techniques, and organizational change with respect to the communication process.
